After yesterdays 2.5km recovery run on the dreadmill at the gym, I set out this morning at 6.30am (earliest I have gotten up in weeks) for an 8km run.
It was a truly crap run.
I wasn't concentrating, I felt a little leg weary, there was a blustery head wind the WHOLE TIME!!
Are there circular winds here or what?
Everytime I experience head winds on a run out,I expect to get a back wind on the way back.Yet,mysteriously, this rarely happens.
Anyhow, the run back up the hill home was dirty and pooie (they're highly technical terms)
....and yet..I'm looking forward to my 3k run tomorrow.
So Saddam is going to hang.
Although I can understand the satisfaction that some of the survivors of his abusers may feel with this decision, as an outsider with the privledge of being able to consider the big picture, I personally cannot find a whole lot of 'good' in this news.
The trial itself was marred with violence and changes of judges and political interference.
While it may have been politically argued that conductiong this trial was critical in the establishment of democracy in Iraq, I cannot see how this will benefit Iraq.
Saddam was treated as an ally by the west-only one year after the crimes he has been found guilty of he met with Donald Rumsfeld.
The complicit actions of corporate America (as well as other countries) are as important to this case as the hideous actions Hussein oversaw.
It wasn't that long ago that the plight of the Kurds, in particular those in Turkey was seen as a pet issue of the 'radical' left-but when it became convenient to use them, their plight and issues became fodder for the arguments constructed to justify the occupation of Iraq.
I do not support the death penalty.
It is my firm belief that society must always maintain the higher ground and should not be driven by a mentality of retribution.
Just as it takes a village to raise a child, sometimes, it just takes a handshake to raise brutality.

Well said....
I hope your next run goes better.
Interstingly enough I also had a crappy run on Sunday evening, your Monday morning....DanQ
Would you please give the ratio of km to miles when you talk about your running? I have no clue what you're talking about when you talk in km, I don't speak foreign.
:p
Just kidding, viva la resistance...taggie
In total agreement with you there Tinkle - the whole "eye for an eye" thing just doesn't do it for me
I also know what you mean about the headwind thing, living by the Bay there seems to be a constant headwind when I go for my run and it doesn't matter which direction I'm going in
